Deer pistol
Thinking of purchasing a pistol for deer any suggestions?

RE: Deer pistol
I used to have a Ruger Super Redhawk in 44 mag. It was a great gun. It has the Ruger scope bases milled into the frame, so scoping it is very easy. And it was accurate out to 100 yards. Good luck in what ever you choose.

RE: Deer pistol
First you have to find out whats legal to use in your state? What caliber& energy min-required? Here i couldnt hunt big game with most of my pistols- even my 44 mags.could be questionable i think-as most loads wont have the min energy required? (1000ft/lbs at 100 yrds?)(tho - i dont know how they check these things like load energy in the field- if questioned)
But i dont hunt with pistols....if i did id use a 44 mag& keep the shot within a reasonable distance ......... But your laws etccould be totaly diffentthen mine. |
RE: Deer pistol
.454 Casull.

RE: Deer pistol
Smith and Wesson .460

RE: Deer pistol
.460 S&W. The new cartridge is a lengthened version of the .454 Casull. Bullet diameter .454"
Sure, that will be a deer round as well. |
RE: Deer pistol
i would have to say if your into reloading i would get a 45colt and reload it to a 300grain but if not 454 casul or a 44 mag

RE: Deer pistol
i'm surprised noone mensioned the contender. if i wanted to handgun hunt i would go with either the super redhawk or a contender. but most likely the contender. you can use pretty much any cartridge you want with the interchangeable barrels. i would probably go with a 7mm-08 or possibly a 243 if not larger like to a 30-06 with 125's.

RE: Deer pistol
TC, nice single shotguns. I guess one has to considerbetween a revolver and a single shot. How big of a gun does one want to carry.
