7mm-08 vs 25-06
I was wondering which round you would get. Why and in what rifle under 750$?

RE: 7mm-08 vs 25-06
I have both a Remington 700 sps in 7mm-08 and a Ruger m77 in 25/06 my favorite is the 7mm-08 and both are less than 750.00

RE: 7mm-08 vs 25-06
Both are great rounds, the 7mm-08 being a short action is nice for weight. 25-06 is a speedy 25. I like both, but before offering an opinion to which one, what and where are you planning to hunt with it?

I have both as well. I would use the 25-06 for antelope and its a toss-up for deer. Either will handle everything you mentioned. The 7mm-08 will handle some elk hunting as well.

Take a look at Remington's model 700 LSS Mountain rifle - stainless with laminated stock. Lightweight, too! It can be had in 270Win., or if you prefer, the 7mm-08. Here's a link: http://www.remington.com/firearms/centerfire/700mtnls.htm I have one in 270Win. Very accurate. One of the other folks on the forum here, I believe he goes by the handle of "Firstshot", recently acquired one in 7mm-08. You might want to do a little search on it. He's posted several comments/targets, etc. |

ORIGINAL: James B I have both as well. I would use the 25-06 for antelope and its a toss-up for deer. Either will handle everything you mentioned. The 7mm-08 will handle some elk hunting as well. 25.06 = lighter bullets - flatter shooting 7-08 = heavier bullets - more down range energy About equal for deer sized game. Smaller than deer 25.06 best. Larger than deer 7-08 best. |
RE: 7mm-08 vs 25-06
I allready have a 338 win mag for elk and i have seen it do some pritty nasty stuff to an antelope. I guess i allready have a 270 for the mulies so I will probabaly only use this for antelope and whitetails. A 25-06 would also do well for cyotes... not that it isnot fun to shoot them with a 338.:D:D

Farm, you have some good choices there. You can enen hunt
elk in low or high country with the .338. I have shot elk with .270, but prefer the low and high country .338. I also have used the .270 on deer and mulies. I like the .25-06 for lopes. I have been using 6.5mm Swede for a few years now as I have not been out West in 11yrs. Here sits an A-Bolt .338, BLR .358 and a 7mmMag just wanting to go back out West. Before my last sunrise I would like to meet JamesB. |
