WSM on turkish Mauser action
Can you use a turkish mauser to build a wsm rifle. ER Shaw's web site says no. The turkish mauser is a large ring style with small ring threads correct. Is it a bolt face problem? Will useing a Rem SAUM with the rebated case head help. I want to build a 6.5 mm using the short fat theory. I know about the 6.5 284, I just want a little more speed.

Don't think it will work. I think (I'm no expert smith) the rails are too narrow and it won't fit the magazine.
Good Luck. Erik Rusty Axe Camp |

Thanks, I wondered if that wasn't the problem. I'll have to go back and check the width

I would get a 7MM Rem Mag and have Shaw rebarrel it yo 264 Win Mag. They did one for me years ago. Did a fine job and it was a good shooter. Thats about all the speed you can get for the 264 without shelling out barrels. IMO. Good Luck.

RE: WSM on turkish Mauser action
Thanks guys, the body width on a saum is .550 inches, the belt diameter on a standard belted mag is .532, and the body on a 8 mm mauser is .473.
I just like the appeal of having a wild cat, and always wondered if that caliber combination would be possible. I quess its to bad I just rebarreled my savage, that's what I should have built it on. |
