Trap Shooters
I shoot on a summer league and we are shooting normally from the 22 yard line. I usually shoot around a 21 with a full choke in. What about a modified at that spot? Whould that make a whole ton of difference for the good?

RE: Trap Shooters
I believe so. A skeet choke and your probably hitting consistent 24's.

RE: Trap Shooters
Modified will be fine, I would suggest 7&1/2's...

RE: Trap Shooters
Are you shooting handicap trap or are you sure you're shooting from 22 yards?
Trap is usually shot at 16 yards. At 16 yards, a modified is an ok choke, you will probably hit more birds with it from the get go, but anything beyond 16 yards, I would favor the full choke. In the long term, its best to stay with the full choke, it will make you a better shooter. |
RE: Trap Shooters
I shot trap leagues for five years. I prefered a modified choke with 8's, sometimes 9's. If you go with 9's you have to shoot fast. The 8's work great. 7 1/2's are not really needed. I will take extra pellet count any day, unless the clays are hard. One range we shot at had hard clays, so I used 7 1/2's their. Just try a few combos. And the best advice I ever received concerning trap was, "Head down, eyes up." Good luck.
Sorry, I didn't see the yardage. I agree, stick with the full choke if you are shooting from the back. And go 8's at the smallest. |
RE: Trap Shooters
maybe think about shooting an improved modified....know a few guys who do

RE: Trap Shooters
I shoot a BT99 choked Imp Mod for trap. I've not had issues regardless of what line we shoot from. Only thing is, from the 22 yard line, you can't take your time.
I don't know BC, a skeet choke from the 22, you'll need to shoot quick! |
