ORIGINAL: usem

not only that, but below 1800 fps, the sp will not expand,
"sp"..... what are you refering to?

Swift Sciroccos are polymer tipped, Barnes XBTs are a solid copper projectile......

I can understand a 1000yrd target rifle but if I couldn't get closer than that to the game I'm hunting Ill do something else.
None of us should be taking shots at that range at an animal.

I ran the numbers through my Exbal program and the Beyond Belief's 7 STW, loaded to redline, with a 150 grain Barnes X boat-tail bullet, should hit the 1800 fps mark at slightly past 800 yards. Also, I agree with your 1800 fps minimum impact velocity; in fact, it may be a little generous. I usually figured 2000 for the speed at which a bullet is capable of making a permanent wound channel larger than its frontal diameter. Beyond Belief . . . .

sp is for softpoint bullet.

USEM,
That is what I thought you meant, butI would not consider the Scirrocos or the Barnes, to be a traditional Soft Point bullet.

Roskoe understands whats going on here and USSR hit the nail on the head!

But some folks.....once they READ something....they take it hook, line & sinker.

1000 yard game rifle? Not reliably.
