10000 dollars

Man, one thing I have learned lately, is customs are not worth what you put into them. Sounds like a great rifle. What kinda of safety on it?

RE: What is this Mauser worth?

Converted 2 position safety..which will be converted to a model 70 safety if I buy it. Price is right. Only thing I don't like is that dang overrated 280

Oh man, sounds like its a good deal. Is the safety like the overhead safeties that get in the way with a scope or like a Mod 70 2 position?

I love a 280. I have seen them perform great with 140gr BT kicking at 3000fps before with great accuracy.

Its a sporterized flip up that doesn't hit the scope..bolt handle and pretty much everything else have been customized..it is a sweet gun. Friend of mine owns it probably not even put 100 rounds thru it and it is a tack driver. Its been a safe queen since I know the guy. Since he is 6'7 and I am 6'0 I will have to cut down the LOP about 1 1/2 inches to 13 1/2. I then have to add the customized model 70 trigger. It's going for about 500 or so .

BC are you delusional? a 280 kicking a 140 at 3000 Hmm. I might have to bring my chronograph with me to find out if I decide on it. WHat do you think is a better overall cartidge from deer to ELk... a 280 or an 06?

My speer reloading manual does not list a 140 gr bullet. But, the 135gr max velocity listed is 3096. The max velocity for a 145gr slug is 2976. So a 140 should be able to be pushed to 3000fps.

Possibly.

It was with 140gr BT and 58gr of 4831sc. Hey I was shocked too. Considering, I see that with 7mmRem mag and much more powder.

Now I am not sure if my buddy has great accuracy out of it at that speed.

You haven't been the same since the boar hunting trip with Mossy. Best I ever got out of a 24" barrelled 280 was 2875 with a 140 grain bullet. With a 26" number 1 2950 all these were with ballistic tips. With the 24" gun I was getting 3070 with Federal Premium 140 grain TBBC bullets. I am not saying you need 3000 for this thing to work it should be plenty for any whitetail or mule deer. The barrel on the mauser btw is 26" .

This guys was a 26".

All I am getting with my STW is 3070fps with a 160gr accubond:(:( And thats with 78gr H1000.

I have a 24 inch barreled 700 Rem in 280 that I have reached 3100 fps with the 140 grain Nosler BT. No signs of pressure at all. I had a model 70 in 7MM Mag that would not match that. You just never know. The 280 was a rebarreled LH Rem 700. ER Shaw did that one for me as they did quite a few others.

I have one of those 1909 Mausers too. Its still original so far. 7X57

1909 Argentines come in only one flavor, 7.65x53. If yours is 7x57, it's been rebareled, or isn't an Argentine.

OEH,
Were you "dissing" the 280?[:@]

OEH,

If it looks like a.. Oh no I wasn't dissing it thats just the summation of what my experience with 280's has been at least shooting 140 grain ballistic tips and the chronograph readings I have been getting. In hunting reality not one bit of difference will kill as well as anything out there. I spoke to the owner of the rifle last nite and got more specifics on it. It's a 98 GEW and needs the reciever to be opened up so bullets can be seated to 3.330 OAL . I would like to add a gentry 3pos wing safety and have the bolt handle replaced and after talking to the guy figuring what all the mods would cost blew the rifle out of the water. So it will be a no go on this fine rifle

OEH,
That's a shame. It sounded like a sweet rifle. BTW, what was he asking?:D

RE: What is this Mauser worth?

I could have had it for 600 which if you add up barrel, action and stock is about 1/2 price..it just needs another 400 to make it right in my eyes. DOn't get me wrong I am not a mauser snob but there are certain features I like/want in a gun and it needs them remedied.

No, I was going to ask for his number and buy it myself.

I have known this guy for a few years and this is the first time he has even mentioned selling it and even at that not sure 100% he would agree on selling it. In a nutshell he won't sell it to anyone he doesn't know real well.
