Question about a Marlin 35

A buddy of mine has an older Marlin 35cal lever action and were trying to find out how old this rifle is. The model number is 336RC 35CAL REM and the serial number is V21572. We know it's old because of the low serial number and he acquired it from a family member back in the late 40's.

I sent an e-mail to Marlin a few weeks back but no response, I thought someone on here might be able to help me out.

RE: Question about a Marlin 35

His rifle was manufactured in late 1961 or 1962. That is a sweet rifle. I have a 336RC from 1968 in 35 REM. It's probably my favorite rifle. Let me know if he wants to get rid of it.

RE: Question about a Marlin 35

OK, I posted this same question on the Marlin chat room and here's the response I got on that site:

"Your "V" prefix 336RC was made in 1962. A "U"
prefix would indicate 1961. The RC stands for Regular Carbine, meaning a 20" barrel with full magazine".

Just thought I pass this along for any of you Marlin owners.

Kenny.

RE: Question about a Marlin 35

I had a J.C. Higgins M45 - (Marlin 336) in .35 Rem. It had regular rifling, rather than a microgroove barrel, and shot 200-grain cast bullets as well as jacketed slugs!

Keep yore powder dry!!
