Hey, what made you narrow it down to those specific reels? have you looked at shimano?
If money was no issue I would go with the Calais, but if you wanted something a little cheeper I would go with the Chronarch mg.
If I had to choose one of those reels it would probably be the Team Daiwa Fuego.

geesh..thats alot to drop ona reel unless you're out on the water every day...i say the Team Daiwa..look at shimano though..also, i looked at all those reels, and decided to save myself $100. The Pflueger President widespool is just all around goodness. i'd say unless you're a touring pro or you're on the water fishing hard every day or 6 days a week, knock off 100 bucks and get a president..team that with st.croix rod and you have a combo that stands up to any other on teh market.

I have 3 Quantums. One thing I like about Zebco products is that one time a part broke. I found the Zebco address on line and they sent me the part for free. I had bought the reel had a garage sale for one dollar. That one was a spinning reel. All of my 3 bait casters are quantums. My son and I love them. Mine are the cheaper 70 dollar ones. They sell them at Walmart. We put 13 bass in the boat last weekend with them.

bigbass,

The very 1st thing I look for when buying any reel is the number of Bearings - not Bushings but Bearings(roller type). Generaly speaking the more Bearings the smoother and longer lasting that particular reel will be whether it be bait or spin.

IMO many of these new reels are made to catch fisherman not fish. Alot of flash and no go if you get my drift. Alot like some of these new vehicles coming out - Flash but No Go!

I only use ABU bait casters.

James, i've always been the same way. Howver, when it came to a good solid mid range baitcaster, the Pflueger President widespool is all that and a bag of potato chips. dont need those 250 dollar daiwas..i've always fished Abu's, still will. I just really like that Prez reel. abu garcia is a prime exampleof quality BEARINGS as opposed to QUANTITY. my 5600c3 has 3 bearings, and it fishes better than reels with 6 or 7. garcia will always been my go to reels for muskie, and ill always have alot of them for bass.

Quantum makes a great reel, but right now I am on a abu garcia kick... they are ultra smooth and tuff. Take a look at the garcias.

yeah, bass pro shops reels are about the worst offenders of that. 10 bearings and you'd thing you were mixing concrete with your reel.

well well well i thought this would happen so i changed now it is between a browning midas combo which is 190 and a Pflueger President and st croix avid casting combo which is like between 200-225 i think now we vote thanks for the imput. :D

I have one 5000 Abu thats been to Canada Pike fishing once or twice a year for 20+ years. Its thrown thousands upon thousands of big spoons and big cranks. I have oiled the level wind a few times and changed the line a few times. Gorilla line. It just keeps on working year after year. Its one with just bushings. I have about ten Abu's. Thats about ten life times worth of reels.:D Lost track years ago of how many Pike I have landed with that reel. I have a new one just like it waiting for the old one to wear out. I afraid I will wear out long befoe it does.:D

RE: which reel to get

Obviously you have tried them both.I was thinking about buying a Garcia.Quantum puts out a nice 58.00 reel. Do you have a 60.00 Garcia reel? How is it compared to the Quantum? Lot of backlashes? How about casting distance compared to Quantum?
Thanks,
Chuck
