RE: Steelhead

Any tips on what to use to catch steelhead and salmon? It's my first time trying and just throught maybe some would have some good tips. So far I've been using egg sacs, I plan on using some flies later in the season. Any tips? Thanks

I've been using eggs also and I have had some success with them. Steelhead fishing is not like any other kind fishing that I've experienced. They appear to be very fussy at times. One thing I've learned is KEEP trying! Presentation seems to be the key.

Approach the water carefully...they are very spooky.

Keep an open mind and experiment.

Flourocarbon leaders are just about invisible which also helps.

Good luck!

TomC, Thanks for the advice. It looks like the Steelhead and Salmon are just starting to enter the streams up here in the U.P. out of Lake Superior. I haven't had any luck but I'm sure persistance will pay off. I've been playing with spoons, spinners, and crawlers along with eggs. I think I'll try the Flourocarbon leader, I didn't know they were so spooky. Thanks again for the advice, good luck fishing!
