Need Help.
 

Bass season opens friday and I don't know didaly squat about lures. I usually fish mackrel but I am going to do a little lake fishing this year. It will be the first time that I have fished out of a lake since I was 8 years old.

What works good for bass. I have been told that the lake that im going to be fishing has some of the best bass fishing in the state. I have a zebco 33 gold with a 5'6" rod with 10lbs test line. Is this any good it was a x-mass gift?

If the bass are being aggresive, a Zora Spook, Crazy Crawler, Buzzbait, etc, will all work perfectly, just make sure you have the fish on before you set the hook. If the bass are being a bit more finicky, try a Texas-rigged work, worm under a bobber, or slowly twitch a sluggo with a couple split shot. What are what??? Sluggo's, Zora Spook's, Crazy's Crawlers??? Or do you mean something else??

Okay, I'll start with a buzzbait. It's a spinner with a twistd proppeller that makes a big disturbance on the surface of the water. To use it, just cast it out and reel just fast enough to get it to the surface. The Zora Spook is a big cigar shaped plug lure. To use it, cast it out and twitch it back to the boat. Some people "walk the dog", but that's kinda complicated. Sluggo's are plastic twitchbaits, I use them the same way as a Spook, except under the surface. Andy, first of all what type of bass will you be fishing for. This plays a big part in lure selection and where to fish. If they are largemouth then you will fish pre and post spawning areas with lures such as spinnerbaits, crankbaits and worms. If they are small mouth they tend to like rocky bottoms where you would use small twister tail grubs, crankbaits, and tube jiggs. As far as a Zara Spook, that is what is referred to as a cigar bait due to it's shape. it's a topwater and is usually twitched so that it moves side to side in what is called a "walk the dog" motion. Let me know what type of bass and I may be able to offer a little all around advice.

Berkley and Bass Assasin are both good for the plastic twitchbaits. I believe Heddon and Berkley both make Zora Spook type lures. For spinnerbaits, I've used everything from bargain bin specials to ones that made my wallet alot lighter:), and I've found that unless you're ripping them in extrememly fast, the cheaper ones work as well. You should try to look for sunken timber or structure of any kind. Weed beds usually hold a couple bass too. Hope this helped.

Don't forget to check out a Wally World bargain bin for lures. Pretty much any popper, twitch bait, jig will work for bass. Just curious, what kind of bass are you fishing for????
