going to break the ice

I'm going fishing wednesday, were going to crawling valley here in southern alberta, were runing 3 tipups for the pike with some herring as bait and the the 3 of us will try jiggin for some walleye. were not allowed to keep walleye out of that lake yet but the population is strong in a few years maybe, i just catch and release anyways. ill let you know if we have any luck. what works out here for walleye are glowing jig heads tiped with minnows. for the pike we have these harrings that are 6" or so.

Any tips ?

If you can,use bigger bait than 6in or so for pike. 10 or 12 in isn't too big.
Use quick strike rigs on your tip-ups. Always use a leader for pike,.At least 12 inches. If you're using quick strike rigs a leader isn't necessary.

If you want big pike I would use bigger bait. I'ld also try dead bait just underneath the ice.
