Default Spearing decoy carving reference

Does anyone know of a good reference to show how to carve spearing decoys for beginners?

Thanks for any responses

Rusty, it's similar to a duck decoy. See link above.

TheRick and Rusty,

It looks as if spearfishing decoys are mostly a "vintage" item, sold as collector pieces. Good luck finding out how to make them. I have never heard of their use in modern times either....

I use spearing decoys every winter and it is not just old vintage decoys.

Rusty,

They are used to spear northerns in the winter, it is shaped like a real fish such as a perch and you jig it to draw in a northern then you throw your spear. This is only done under the ice in winter so I'm sure it is a foreign topic to most people in the southern states but pretty common in the north. I can buy a decoy at any retail store but I'm interested in carving my own.

that would explain why I have never seen nor herd of it, Ive never even seen anyone throw a real spear before personally I use a speargun but im under water with the fish but thats an interesting fact to know. Good luck in your search
