Farm pond catfish in johnboats?

I have a little john boat that I take out on some of my farm ponds, I don't have much luck when I set her right over my cat channel and bait, but I can't cast out to it very often from the shore. Are they freaking b/c of my boat above them do you think? I borrowed an underwater camera, the fish are there, HUGE fish are there, but they won't bite when I'm in the boat. I get one over 9 lbs everytime I cast out there far enough from shore though.

I've had the best luck with catfish from the shore, first time I tried there got an 8.4 and an 8 pounder! good luck
