Electrofishing?

I have a friend who just built a new pond a couple of years ago. It already has a bunch of little bullheads and tiny bluegills that wont amount to anything and we wanted to try shocking the pond. We tried it once using the old telephone method, but we couldn't get that to work. Any one have any suggestions or designs of something you made to shock his pond, or maybe someting we could buy. Thanks

Bclark is right... Illegal... Ponds won't work good, works best with sand bottoms and like brent said, unscaled fish. A big seine would work a lot better anyways. Check your regs in your state, it's most likely illegal.

the only thing about seining it would be that we don't have a big enough seine because it is a fairly large pond. I'm not really sure about whether it is legal or not, it is his own private pond, and he put the fish in there, which was a big mistake.

If you plan on putting bass in that pond, you DO NOT want to get rid of the blue gills.
The bullheads, on the other hand, should prolly go.
You need to get in contact with your local Ag Extention Agent and he may be able to help you out. He can send you a ton of info that your state publishes on how to manage private impoundments. It's all free.
I have managed farm ponds before and it takes alot of work and years to produce quality harvests.

One other thing......

Never add catfish other than channels to a pond!! Channels will help keep the ecosystem healthy.

Channel cats might ruin the spawning nests of bass and bluegills..

Bluegils? With bass? Bluegill eat bass eggs as fast as the bass can lay them. I saw a show on the discovery channel where bluegill schooled and started raiding every bass bed they could.
