HOLY LAKERS!!
 

Yowzers we ran into em the other day. Went trolling Monday afternoon from 3:30pm til dark and caught 38 Lake Trout. Most of them were between 3-6 lbs. with one 12 pounder and the lunker of the day 14 pounds. We had to start only running 2 rods, because we couldn't get both rods down at the same time without a fish on one of them. They are just piled up on this one littel ledge on the North end for some reason. What a blast. Tiring, but fun as heck.

They are fun to catch on occasion but i cant stand targeting them for one i am not impressed with them as table fare and they are not very hardy when released, at least thats my experience with lake michigan lakers. Maybe your lakers are better there.

I agree 100% with you carp. They are not on my top 10 list of fish to target, but like you said they can be fun to catch on occasion.... especially when you have them patterned like that.
It was all catch and release. Personally I can't stand eating them. As far as releasing them, it is a pain in the arse. They do some crocodile death roll and can be tough to revive. I found burping them helps tremendously though. Never knew about the burping thing until a few years ago. I couldn't believe the difference.
As far as fish to go after for dinner........ this time of year is pretty tough. Walleyes are scarce. Rainbows are very tough to come across in the middle of August (on my lake anyway). So its' a toss up between topwater bass fishing and slamming defenseless lakers.

How big were those lakers? 12 lbs? Where I catch lakers, they are atleast 20 lbs and 40 lbs is not uncommon! but not all of us can fish the 2nd greatest spot for lakers in the world, Flaming Gorge!:D;)

Owasco Lake (one of the finger lakes in NY)

No Judy ......... they don't get that big in this lake. 12-18 lbs is considered a hoss for this lake.
