Parisites in Bass fillets ?

When I`ve filleted a couple of bass there seem to be parisites or some kind of larva in the flesh. Also, I`ve seen what looks like pepper ( thousands of black specks) on bluegill. Any idea what this is ? Thanks, DHD

are the little larva looking things yellow...if so they are some kind of worm...just scrap them out and continue one cleaning the fish

I must say in all my years of fishing and cleaning fish I've never seen that!! I would be a little .....hmmmmmmmmmmmm............. well uneasy about it I guess. I don't think I'd be eating it. With my luck it would be the start to a newly discovered bacterial disease.

They are very common in saltwater fish. My parents live on Pine Island on the gulf in Florida, and my dad catches a lot of trout (sea) there. It is not at all uncommon to find a small worm/larva in them. He holds them up to the sunlight and they are visible. He just cut them out. He said he's probably eaten a thousand of them, and not known.

Not sure if it's the same with freshwater though.

you guys are just not looking, they are very common in bass and other fish including pike. seem to show up more the hotter the water gets. harmless if you can get past the thought. ;)

ok guys the black spots on bluegill or other panfish are called black grubs they come from underwater snails & attached themselves under the fins of the fish but it isnt harmful if you eat them so dont worry if you eat them it wont hurt ya cuz i have ate some & i didnt feel sick or anything cuz when you cook them it keels the worm anyways witch is protein & the worm that you see in the flesh of the fish is a yellow grub & they also can be seen on the outside of the body also due to hot weather.
