RE: waterfleas!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hey guys..Help me on this..I`ve been reading this post and even mentioned these "fleas" to my buddy who fishes with me in the Lake Placid region.I`ve been fishin there for about 15 yrs now and he`s been for about 30 yrs,and we never encountered or even heard of water fleas. Is there another name? What time of year do you have problems with them or certain water temp.I fish most in the spring and fall,is that why I haven`t seen them? How do they damage your line?......Thanks

beagle-

here's a link about them.

http://www.goerie.com/greatinvasion/...ater_flea.html

They are active in summer conditions. Spring and fall they seem to receed (thank God)
As far as what they do to the line......... I'll take my digital next time I attempt to troll and show you what they look like. An absolute mess!!! The tail of these things hook to your line as you're trolling then they just accumalate and pile right up one after the other. It's so bad on the lake I fish on now after 10 minutes of trolling they are gobbed on the line from the top of the water all the way down to the release. You can't reel in a fish because they all get hung up on the top eye as you're reeling. It looks like a jelly/cotton substance on your line. The line gets fraided and twisted and they end up in your spool. A real problem for sure.

Thanks NYBH,I printed it out,I`ll show my buddy.Yea,They look like they can ruin a good day of fishin.

Like I wrote,I go up there in the fall and spring, after ice out-and when the lakes start turning over,so I`ve never seen these nasty critters.I`d imagine I`ll come in contact with`em after I move there this coming April.

What are waterfleas?
Also here is a suggestion.
Alot of bugs hate hot fire so just get a can of WD-40 and a lighter and burn it around your boat or on land just 1 quick shot could keep them alway a long time. Also bass love WD-40 try putting it on your lure

Nova, There in the water not in the air. If you go up a few posts there's a link on one of NYBH posts that will explain to you what they are.
