RE: where are all the walleyes gone
Spring
Spring fishing on the Western Basin of Lake Erie is a magical time of the year, 80% of the entire population of the Lakes Walleyes are in this area for spawning. Trophy Walleye in the 10lb class are constantly being caught in the deep water flats surrounding the reef complexes. Males stack up on the reefs in huge numbers awaiting females and are easily caught using jigs & minnows or by casting blade baits. The larger females can occasionally can be caught on the reefs but most are caught by trolling in the deep water. Summer As summer sets in and waters warm up the larger females move to the Central Basin and the resident Walleye school up in megapacks that may be a mile wide and several miles long. This is freezer stocking time as limit catches are the norm. This time of year the most productive method of catching Walleye is by trolling allowing you to cover a greater amount of water, drifting is also productive as long as you have enough wind to maintain a drift. |
RE: where are all the walleyes gone
I have a group of friends that are there now staying on Pelee Island. They will be back this weekend. Will try to get a report from them and let you know. I am heading there myself next week and have a some guide friends. If they don't know where the fish are, nobody does. I'll let you know as soon as I find out.

RE: where are all the walleyes gone
My other advice would be to kick back with a cold one and wait until the mayfly hatch is over.

RE: where are all the walleyes gone
Early reports say that fishing is improving around west sister and Pelee. Weather has settled and mayfly hatch is about over. More soon.
