Since you mentioned "lure", I don't think you'll be fly fishing..In that case, I have seen others have the most success in early stream trout fishing by using worms, salmon eggs or power bait, and fishing off the bottom. Bouncing it off the bottom and keeping the bait moving is the key here. Trout are natural bottom feeders, and keeping the bait as close to the bottom as possible and not let it just sit there should help. As fare as what lure you should use...I'll let others with more experience on that area, help you out...Good Luck!!

Yep, try to find the deep holes, and fish the bottom of then. The deep water is warmer than the surface water, it may not be by much, but it makes a HUGE difference. I would suggest getting a couple dozen shiners, putting three splits shots about 14 inches below them and fishing them like that. That way they are near the bottom and they still have room to swim and attract the big trout. Powerbait is another good one for cold weather. Fish it like the shiners. I don't like night crawlers in cold weather. I know that they don't come out in this weather, and trout know that too. A slow roostertail or panter martin can work good too. Good Luck.

I was out this weekend and used a gold beed nymph and caught my limit w/in a hour. I fish it close to bottom. Others were using powerbait and they were catching but not as quick as I was that day.
