opening day trout

Went to my normal opening day stream and had my best day ever. Perfect weather, not a lot of people I only had to wade upstream 3/4 of a mile to get away from everyone. Caught 82 fish mostly natives up to 16" on my 3# rod. Caught most on woolyboogers but had occasionly had small hatches and would get a few on dries. Looks like it's going to be a good season

82 trout?! That's amazing. Did you keep any? What's the creel limit there?

It was pretty amazing.I usually catch 25 to 30 opening day on this stream. I guess there was a good spawn because most of the fish were natives but I walk pretty far upstream from the only access and have the place pretty much to myself. Took a friend with me and he caught 38 and had to leave at 2:00. Creel limit is 10 but I kept only 4 for the grill. Went back sunday didn't get there till 1:00 and still caught 24 one of those close to 20"and broke off 2 more can't wait till next weekend

No trout fishing that far down you will have to go up towards the mountians maybe an hour or two drive. The closest place would be the chattahoochee below buford dam at lake lanier but it gets pretty crowded. Contact the DNR. and you can get all the information on trout streams and special regulations in the state.Good luck

Georgia must be a heck of alot different from PA on opening day of trout. Unless you hike up back in the middle of nowhere there is always somebody fishing around you.

Most places with easy access are crowded but this stream flows through a management area and flows through some pretty rough terrain with no trail beside it so most people fish for stockers close to the road. I wade upstream 1/2 to 3/4 of a mile and have the stream all to myself. Went back last sat. caddis flys hatching allmost all day caught 36 fish, mostly natives between 12" and 15" on dries. The fish were so aggressive some would come over a foot out of the water on the strike, heart stopping.

For some reason in PA fishing wasnt that great this year. Maybe it was from all the rain we had prior to opening day? I only caught 8 my biggest was 12 inches.
