King Salmon: What's your secrets?

The Salmon are running in our rivers here, right now.
Biggest I've heard caught so far is 41 pounds, and plenty over 30.
I've been out 4 times now. Can see em, porposing about, but so far no hook-up.
What's the latest and greatest in lures up there in the northern hemisphere.
I've been using Silver, Green and Yellow Zed Spinners, and Silver Colarado's.
Have worked in the past.
We fish big deep holes in large glacier fed rivers, travel round by Jet Boat and sometimes 4WD.
I'm real interested to know the techniques that you Americans (And Canadians) use. (Lures, Rigs, Colours, Rods/Reels, time of day etc.)
Appreciate sharing your knowledge.

Well on the Kenai river where I fish these babies they use a spin-n-glow with a clump of cured salmon eggs on it, then it is back-trolling or drifting for them. Seeing as you are probably meaning from the bank, sorry.

Tim,
How deep and heavy of flows are you talking?

We do quite well up here with fly gear in water up to around 6-8ft deep.
Sink Tip lines off 8-10wt rods with flies like Conehead Wooly Buggers in #4's and 6's.
(A good color for me is a Black Crystal Bugger and an Orange Cone)
Swing thru the fish Wet fly style with small strips and pauses........the strikes can be VERY heavy.[:-]
If the water is shallower as in the heads of pools where the fish will stack before pushing upstream I usually don't even need a Sink Tip.

Conventional tackle.......No clue.:eek::D

Tim-from the bank a spin-n-glo in orange and green with a glob of eggs or use a big cork with a bobber stop set just above bottom with a small spin-n-glo and a glob of eggs. Use a sinker and 24 inch leader and cast upstream in a slow moving hole and set the hook hard if the bobber moves or goes down. Good luck.
