Trout season? What kind of state has a trout season? Everywhere I have ever lived has allowed you to catch trout all year round.

TRUE, and that is almost the case here but because some waters are stocked you can't fish them before the season opener. Stocked waters even though they hold native fish can't be fished from March 1st till opening day. We do have year round fishing but much water is regulated as far as what and when you can keep fish. I typically don't keep any trout unless my wife and I have a real hankering for fish, do enjoy them smoked.
Stocked waters seem to keep the kids more interested because they see a lot of fish being caught.

We don't have a 'trout season' in Manitoba but when the general season closes for walleye, pike, etc, seems that's when people move onto stocked trout since their season never closes
