I posted this in the NE forum but it seems to have gotten no comments so I put it here as well.

The Luzerne County Coroner was called to the scene of a shooting involving a Fish and Boat Commission waterways conservation officer, the Citizens Voice is reporting.

The officer shot the suspect after being hit in the head with a rock. The suspect also tried to drown the officer, according to reports. The incident happened Tuesday afternoon in rural West Nanticote off of Route 11 near the Susquehanna River.

A state police helicopter circled the area as investigators search for another suspect. Authorities have since said there was no second person involved in the incident. According to the report, witness heard two gunshots and the officer, head bloodied from being struck with a rock, emerged from a wooded area where the altercation with the suspect occurred.

Sounds like a bad situation. I wonder what the story will turn out to be. Poachers are indeed a dangerous criminal. Too bad most places normally don't treat F&W violations seriously. Around here all a poacher needs to do is demand a jury trial and the state calves almost every time.

We had a young officer murdered by a jack lighter in 2010, he caught the guy and his partner rigfht after they killed the deer. The j
killer had a .45 auto under his shirt and when the officer , who was alone went to handcuff the guy he pulled the gun and started shooting. He hit the officer several times the officer went to his vehicle for cover and returned fire and hit the guy in the hip, the officer then collapsed and the killer stood over him and shot him in the head. The killer is doing life right now, he should have gotten the needle. Turns out he was a felon not to possess a firearm and he told his partner he was not going back to jail before the officer got him out of the vehicle. The partner was instrumental in the capture of the killer.

WCO is certainly a tough and dangerous job. Often alone without backup in a rural area and dealing with people that are likely to have weapons. Every time I get license checked I thank them for doing their job.

I assure you, they appreciate that. One thank you cancels out 5 or 6 ,"why are you bothering me or why don't you go bother some real criminals"!
