Crawfish in Michigan

Hello everyone, I am new to fresh water fishing, and I am Derek, I have a buddy who is teaching me how to fish and hunt.

Here is one that we caught not too long ago.

And he has taught me how to crawfish for under $13 dollars at Lowell's.

Our traps we use.

That's it, I use my pizza box inserts that I get with tony's pizza.

And I use twist ties and wiring from Home depot.

Please enjoy!

I like to mention that we use beef liver and raw hot dog as a basic chum!

The trap before it goes into the water.

Our semi way of camoing it.

They looked pretty good and should work ok. I make them for bait trapping around 3 feet long.

I like to use wreath rings on the ends to help keep the circle in them as well as 2 metal straps riveted where the long part is hooked together. My door is just one of the funnels going into it tied together with bread ties. The other funnel is hooked up with wire rings.

Good idea, Thanks Phil, Do crawfish trap? Or do you strictly bait trap?

I strictly bait fish, but, I do get some crawfish in the traps that I will use on bass once and a while.

Very very cool Phil, Yeah we are planning on turtle trapping and eating turtles next year.

WOW!! looks fun but that little bugger was one expensive mudbug. Did you get more than the one in your day's pull?

Good looking traps, but I just bought mine-2 types-thecone and a box-type from Frabill. Baited them with cheap chicken parts(necks/backs), same stuff we use for crabs in AL, and caught 30-40 per set. Lots of bull frog tadpoles too! (They are great Bass bait.) The kids used the crawfish for bass and catfish bait. Being from Louisiana, I view crawfish on a different scale than some readers. Last time I was home for mardi gras my brother-in-law, who works for a major oil field supplier hosted a 2000 # professional crawfish boil. The crawfish were served on lunch room trays from a scoop shovel and most were over 6" long!

its a good way to find out what color crawfish you lake has so you can match the plastic crawfish bait you use for bass. I like it :-)
