One that got away

Had lots that were striking at my bait yesterday...got one 1 lb'r to the bank and it got off...to my biggest disappointment I lost a huge fish...I didn't get to see it but it slammed at my worm went to the bottom and I thought I set the hook...well this fish just spit it out!!:throw: I almost threw my rod in the water! lol j/king but I did think about it. I'm still upset about losing that one...lol:rant:

What's worse..is when it's a dream buck within 10 yds of your stand...and you miss..That one still haunts me...

I was the #1 shot in the army..no shot to hard..However, I thought I would be hunting long range deer so I zeroed my 270 in at 100 YDS ..NEVER DO THAT!!!!! After research I found out you zero your rifle in at 25 yds..then it's automatically on at 100 yds..Long story short..missed by inches...but still missed..and we don't get many opportunities in FL...Still kicking myself in the butt.

You'll have more opportunities for a big fish...sorry about your loss though. I lost 3 monsters this year and have no idea why..Rod was doubled up...fish on for a good 30 seconds..sharp hooks...JUMP ..gone..just like that...serious heartbreaker ..ALL were double digit bass..I was simply going to photo and release..I'm not mounting any more fish...

I feel some of your pain...every time I miss or have a bad shot on a deer I feel awfully disappointed...not only by my bad shot but about wounding a deer. Its a heart wrenching feeling to miss a deer no matter if its a doe or a huge buck for me.

I think I know what happened to the fish...I had a shiny steel leader on my line because of there being Northern Pike where I fish...I think the fish bass or pike hit the leader instead of the hook...because the hook/worm was undisturbed:rant:

Yeah I see the replay in my head in slow motion...like yours you lost...my rod doubled, line taught, fish went to the bottom (not deep where I was fishing), I pulled to bring it in and fish spit out my hook or wasn't caught...:( I haven't mounted any fish yet...I prob could have mounted the bass I caught in MD but let her go.

had a couple nice rainbow trout get away from me :( one I was in shock I caught it and went to get the stringer and it flopped off into the water:bash: the second was barely hooked I guess...I got it to shore and it popped off...the third I landed about 12-13inche long.
