Thanks guys for the education..keep it up..I've been learning alot about the2005 Ford Ranger FX 4 as well..LOL ..brought alot of bummer nights but I think it's worked out. Getting it ready for the long drive scouting for deer.

any mechanical assembly the has gear oil, engine oil, or transmission fluid will be vented to allow air to escape, if internal pressure is allowed to build it will push the fluids out around the very seals designed to keep the lubricants at a satisfactory level, a stopped up vent will cause leaking seals in other words

the vents Phil mentioned are indeed for the intake of cooling water, the little "pinhole" I was referring to, like I mentioned if I remembered correctly was for "case ventilation"

the hole is normal. The oily exhaust is also normal if its been idled a lot. A motor doesnt need 50:1 ratio at idle, and the unburned fuel/oil will run out of the exhaust. When you run it in the water, there wont be any residue due to the higher rpm.
