I started my vacation tonight when I left work this evening. I have the week off and will get some fishing into my schedule. I am planning on hitting the water around 5:30 am to try my new prop out. As long as it is not to foggy out that is. This morning going to work it was terribly foggy and almost hit someone's horse that was wandering in the road. There was 2 of them and another guy almost hit the other one at about the same time coming from the other direction. So I got on my cell and called the gate at work so that they could get the police up there before one got hit. I found out at work that the owners came and got them and all was OK.

Thanks for the offer Chuck, you just never know... Someday I may take you up on the offer..

Well I went out an gave it a try with little to report.. I caught quite a few small smallmouths and 1 largemouth around 2 1/3 to 3 lbs. That was it. I did have quite a few live bait hit and lost of the hook. Some of them without even knowing I had a bite.

While taking my boat out there was a couple of older guys that was taking out right behind me. They said they caught at least 10 or so decent size largemouths. I told them what I had caught and they stated they haven't caught a smallmouth in years.

So I guess I am still doing something wrong.. I have been having quite a bit of action with smallmouths and not so much with those largemouths.. Go figure. I will need to figure something out about that one.

I would say you are doing something right! I would take a smallmouth over a largemouth any day of the week.

However, if you must catch the lesser species ( :D ), they typically inhabit very different water. Or more specifically different types of water in the same body of water. Smallmouth are usually in the faster water, with more rock ledges, etc. Largemouths will rarely hold in the faster water and tend to be more prone to vegetation. The two must carve out different niches to coexist and survive. So I would change where or how you are fishing first to see if that changes anything.

X's 2

Lardgemouth are in the thick shoreline stuff..under the scummy water..under lily pads..in very shallow water..

I don't know your area at all..but I generally take 6 rods fishing..

My 6 for your area..
Rubber worm 20 pound braid for the thick STUFF.
Rubber worm 10 pound Trilene for pitching semi thick vegetation
SPinner bait weedless..the very edge during first 30 minutes of the day.
Horny Toad,,for the pads or grass
Crankbait for deep holes..
If the shoreline is super thick /matty..a flipping jig.

I'm down here in the Bass Capital..and do not use no mono heavier than 10 pound test Phil...they see the line..and won't bite as well.
