The carb and magneto is pretty simple..but the lower unit was all new to me. I was ripped up by 4 separate mechanics..My last time..I typed a bad review on line at his site and gave the man the motor..Where I fish at..a 55 pound thrust is all ya need.

IF my dad lived here..I'd buy an outboard.he's the best meachanic I've ever new..A long time ago I brought him a 1953 Wizard by Western Auto...It had no theads for the sparkplug..nothing but rock hard crystals in the gas tank..all the carb gaskets were gone..and in 3 hours he had her running..I have a picture of it somewhere..will post latter{-;

My dad is now 81 and put a head gasket last week in his 1931 Motel T Ford..{ -; the man is good.

Phil is correct...I bought a manual as well from IBoat..50.00 ...I also downloaded a parts list { -; almost the same thing..for free..from IBoats as well.

What kind of outboard is the manual needed for? If this is a big V-4 or V-6 outboard you might be in for a little more than you bargained for. Big 2 strokes are a different animal than most 4-8cyl 4 stroke auto motors. (Especially when you get into the induction and electrical systems.)

I own 3 outboards right now, one is on my bassboat, a 2008 Mercury 225SportXS (built by Mercury Racing, higher pressure Optimax technology) Another is a 2005 Evinrude 150 Direct Injection (Bombardier's reworked Ficht after they bought OMC) on my deckboat. The last is a 95 Evinrude 50 on a 16' Lowe aluminum basser. Without a computer and proper tools there aint much to be done by most folks on the 2 direct injected motors. I can "wing it" on the little carbed 50 but luckily one of my best buds dad is a part-time outboard expert so he keeps it hummin on the rare occasion the little motor has a hiccup.

As the old saying goes, "There's 2 kinds of 2 stroke outboards, those that's blowed and those that's about to!"
