Thanks Gangly,
My frined and I boated 15 this morning...at 12:00 lunch time I caught this one off a sandbar..This was at Saddle Creek..I lost a few nice ones today/kevin is getting alot more hits than I am off a curly tail...I plan to go back to braid tomorrow so I can fish a black CURLY tail...I also boated a 3 1/4 pounder...this five fought hard..jumped once totally out of the water and I pushed the button 3 times on it. The morning started out with a little trial..I had just gotten the boat in the water..I made sure Kevin's door was locked. The engine was running..and I shut my door..and it LOCKED automatically. OH CRAP!!! then I remembered ..I had another key in one of those magnetic boxes..:D took a while to find it,,but I did.. Then my first fish was just under 3 pounds..I held her to take out the hook..and flop..she jumped totally out of my hands and into the water breaking my 10 pound Trilene..so..I got off on a weird start..but my last 2 fish was worth it..a 3 1/2 and a 5. Thanks for the reply. C7 |
hey, have you tried a swivel with your curly tail worms? I never really have many problems with curly tail worms, but that could be because I use mostly braid with flouro and mono leaders on bait casting reels.
|
Braid has nearly zero memory...I can use ribbon all day with them..I used to hate Stren momo0..but to be hoonest with ya..my new trilene is ready for the trash..it's wore out already..Kevin has been fishing exclusively with 10 pound clear Stren ..with a curly tail and the line still does not kink..I do have a reel of 12 pound P Line { Flouro carbon } i plan to use tomorrow and 20 pound Power Pro..
my worms of choice. Zoom Red bug gambler Christmas tree Culpret black ribbon tail. all with a red BB split shot or1/8th ounce bullet sinker with 4 mm worm rattles..The rattles certainly helped me today as I was not getting the hits..the rattles seem to generate pick ups..no taps..just pick ups and swim away..Kevin was getting many tap taps ..alot of bluegills going for the red tail..we were watching them. You had to fish slowly and have an ultra sensitive rod as my fish made no tap at all..it would simply inhale the worm and sit there or swim slowly away..mostly directly under the boat..I missed 4 good fish..one, my line was wrapped around my partner as the fish ran sideways...another felt and looked like a 12 inch dink..all of a sudden it was a solid 3 pounder that over powered me....another..I was using too stiff of a rod for the style I was fishing..{ 7 foot Lightning MH} I mostly use that rod for Horny Toad only...I tried flipping and a stiff rod is not a good pull set rod..I want the rod tip to give a little..Lightning Rods' medium heavy actually feels like heavy.super stiff.I like my Fenwick MH..it has a little give in the tip which helps the fish set himself..Team Diawa also has a nice MH..same thing..nice fast action tip..which I like with a pull set..it allows the fish to bend the rod before it feels me.. As far as a swivel..I hate adding hardware to my lure..I try and keep it as real as possible..The BB split shot gives it a slow presentation..eliminates hangups in the weeds and I can cast it a mile with my 2 main reels.Quantum Symetre and Garcia Revo..also..O can slide the split shot up to fish it carolina..cut it off to fish a frog...slip a fluke on etc..It's very versatile.{ -; I fish the BB split shot like a shakey head alot..when I pitch..I dead stick it for about 10 seconds..then I slowly shake the head / BB split shot..that is when I mostly get the pick ups..I fish SLOW. iknow my fishing holes very well so know that there are fish there..so I fish accordingly..This morning they has a slight case of lock jaw so I fished slower than usual. |
sounds good. I havent tried BB split shot in a while. the last time was with 7 in power worms and u-tails. I was moderately successful with them so I am not sure why I quit using them. Will have to try them out again.

This morning I had some excitement...
6:00 AM pitched a worm by a log..netted a nice 4.0 now..I haven't had any excitement on a Rooster tail in a few years..so.. 6:10 AM I chuck the Rooster a long ways and retrieved it over a sand bar.. WHAP!!!! like a lure hung up on a telephone phone my rod doubled over and the fight began..I was worried about the drag on my spinning reel that I WASN'T HEARING...so I loosened it..She was digging digging digging...i knew it was a dcent bass..Kevin had the net ready..Oh... CRAP!!! here she comes to do her tarpon like leap..She looks to be a hefty 6 pounder and clears the lake shaking her red gills fiercely. I'm worried about cher coming unhooked as this is one of the magor problems with this lure..As she is straight up above the water the lure is spit out of her mouth..my heart sinks ..Kevin gives me a disappointed look...and I knew i should have applied more tention and stirred the rod tip to the water to keep her from jumping. I later caught a 3 3/4 pounder with a few hefty 2s but..I wished I would have boated the Rooster tail fish.. Oh well..another day maybe. |
man, the heartache with those lost bigguns sticks around for a bit. You'll get her again, just keep trying and it will happen.

Congrats on your 5lber Chuck, and I am sorry you lost your fish off the roostertail. I have not been on here much lately or bass fishing either for that matter. I have been putting in a lot of hours and have been taking the wife and our 4 year old grandson out perch fishing a few evenings when I can. It has been quite enjoyable watching my grandson catching a few white perch.. I should be carrying a camera in the boat with us.. I need to get a few pics of him reeling in a fish..

Family comes first my friend.
Matt and I went scouting today..an hour and a 1/2 drive..We both got early archery quotas...and WOW!! we saw 5 quality bucks...then 2 more ..then 1 doe..then he got a gorgeous spike on the video camera and I set him up where I saw a few bucks last year..there was only one tree big enough for a climber..Matt will hunt there..I then drove about 7 miles to another spot..{ -; we had our doubts until I hear.." Dad, look! a deer." he was comng out where I was going to set up..then as we closed in to the nice pine tree...out bounds a 2nd gorgeous deer.So , I'm excited.. I wasn't sure if I could shoot from the sitting position. I tried last week at a neighbors property..piece of cake and all bull's eyes. I have a sweet Hoyt Apha Max 32. What a blessing of a bow. Thankyou sincerely Lord Jesus. Phil. Way to put your priorities my friend. In the Bible, God saves FAMILIES. Family is where it's at. I honestly bought a longer boat as a ministry..to take others..befriend them..and later at the right time share my faith. This Fri. I'm taking a neighborhood Mexican boy which we had argued and fought many times..Well, last month out of the blue he ask me to teach him how to bass fish.I said when I find the fish I'll take you. Well, obviously I've found the fish { -; LOL so we are going fri. I won't preach to him..simply in the making friends stage. God bless, Chuck7 |
