tips for pitching a jig

1.use braid or flourocarbon(I like 50Lb powerpro)
2.use nothing less than a medium heavy rod
3.use a jig that is at least 1/2 ounce

My favorite colors are Black/Blue or Brown.

Also use a trailor that matches your jig.

disagree with the jig of atleast 1/2 oz. Sometimes a slower fall is wanted and a 1/8oz will work nicely if the vegetation is thin.

More Hints:
1. Pitch to the shady side of stumps and docks
2. Keep the entry as quite as possible around stumps and debris.
3. Dont cast just to the sides of docks only, cast deep under them and retrieve through the framework. Try to skip the jig as far under the dock as possible.
4. Many docks have sub frame beams that run from post to post. Cast/skip a swim jig under the dock, then swim the jig into those beams and then let the jig fall after impact (much like a crankbait or spinner bait). Often times a strike will occur right after impact.
5. Its a lot easier to pitch a jig with a spinning reel than a bait casting reel when you are just starting.

Nice looking bass. Did you measure the length or put it on a scale?

Thanks Fishnty

Fishnty..by saying you "Think it is pushing 9 pounds" means to me the fish wasn't weighed..so I can't post that fish..You need to actually weigh the fish..

As far as the jigs..it's like all fishing .A man has to fish what he is confident using. Confidence is #1 ...

I like fishing a 3/16th ounce Betsy Jig { Green and Brown }with green crawdad trailor..I will use a medium or medium heavy...I prefer the medium heavy as well..and braid..{ But not for the power} I like fishing all my worms and jigs with braids because it has no memory. I only use heavier jigs when penetrating through the jungle.

I disagree with the 1-2 ounce jig I pitch a 3-8 ounce jig and use 15 pound mono .
