Bed Fishing

I was out fishin and I found beds. I tried everything that I could think of and not one fish even bothered to look at the bait. What do yall use for these bass. Anything can help.

marlin30/30_drabe 04-19-2010 03:49 PM

thats strange because usually they will anilate anything that goes near them

m.t.hands 04-19-2010 04:22 PM

i like a 3-4" pumpkin seed tube with the tips dyed chartuese, or watermelon, done the same....anything that looks like a bream raiding a bed is a good bet...lizards are good also...trick worms

catching bedded bass is not as cut and dry as some think, but here is a little more info that may help you...BTW, not every bass you can see will kill a bait, it kind of depends on what stage of the spawn that fish is at

Thanks Ill keep trying some of those techniques

Chuck7 04-19-2010 04:47 PM

Was you on the east side or west side.??.are you possitive they weren't nile perch..I'm going on the east side tomorrow.I've been seeing lots of nile perch..

Bedding bass will generally knock the socks off anything on their beds..A few years ago I got a ton of hits using a 3 inch green tube..with micro split shot...as the tube would slowllyyy fall they would killi it

Hey Zack..your supposed to let me know when you are seeing bedding bassLOL..been waiting for 2 months.

chuck, you might want to hurry, our spawn is about done over here. hope you arent missing out on good fishing!

Chuck7 04-20-2010 08:22 AM

I was just out there SAt...still daed,,
I'm checking it out tonight..

buckhunter14 04-20-2010 09:20 AM

I can't believe you guys aren't catching bedded fish in Florida yet. With your cold temps and our hot temps were about even. I found my first Largemouth bed yesterday... only a 2.5 pounder though.

flhunter91 04-20-2010 11:49 AM

Ill try the green tubes. Chuck I was on the east side. Also when you go into the water straight ahead by the first pond there are topped out hydrilla around a little island and I was working a zoom frog and there were a lot spashes. I don't know if it was bass or gar because I saw a lot of gar there as well. If you know how to target these buried bass let me know so pointers. Thanks

Chuck7 04-20-2010 11:57 AM

Thanks for the update..I'll go tonight..probably...I miss my family after work at as well.tough choice.{ -;

Best plan I have in thick hydrilla
a. Horny Toad..early in the morning..
b. if not too thick..spinner bait..
C. if I know they are there ..rubber worm or jig..

Buckhunter ,,the cold really did a number on our fisheries..90% of the fish in one lake alone died putting many commercial fisherman out of work..I've never seen the spawn this late before either..

I've been fishing since late Jan..EVERY week so Iwouldn't miss the spawn..it's not just me as I will ask other fishermen as well..they all say the same thing..they are not spawning yet..I've covered alot of square feet drifting Colorado Rigs..chucking spinnerbaits and have struck out at least 6 times..worst I've ever done..

Zack..Horny Toad is the way to go...last year I tried them and I'm hooked...they are great for where you and I fish..I';'ll check the weather and I'm 80% sure I'm going..

God bless,
C7

yikes..rain is coming..now it's IFFY

flhunter91 04-20-2010 12:03 PM

Yea Ill be out there sometime soon hopefully. Hey have you ever tried catching a gar before. I caught a big one a couple months ago on accident and it was a vicious fight.

Chuck7 04-20-2010 12:16 PM

I've caught quite a few gar..I was going to eat one but changed my mind..they are fun..

If I ever find bass this year I'll let you know..

flhunter91 04-20-2010 12:22 PM

I'm sure you will do better than me this year

Gangly 04-20-2010 12:28 PM

with rain on the way, im almost garunteed to be out fishing :) If lightning is on the way with it, Im garunteed to be no where near a lake :) Best of luck to you Chuck.

Chuck7 04-20-2010 12:28 PM

Zack..my adopted son needs a lot of supervisoin..I 'm staying home tonight and I'll hit the east side hard Sat..from 6:30 AM util my arm falls off..

If I get behind in the tourny I got some tricks up my sleeve for summer fishing ..you can come too.[ -:

Gangly..just saw your reply..I'm staying home..I like my family a little bit better than fishin..lol

flhunter91 04-20-2010 12:35 PM

The family situation is very understandable. I love fishing but family comes first. I might be going out Saturday as well, but my prom is that day and I might be hanging out with friends that whole day.

Gangly 04-20-2010 12:51 PM

family first always. I speak of lunch breaks when I talk fishing for the most part, lol. My wife would break something off in my rear if I fished during our time together more than once a month.

flhunter91 04-20-2010 12:55 PM

Hey Gangly where in Texas do you live. I was born in Paris and my whole family lives up in Paris, Blossom, and my dad lives in Austin

Gangly 04-20-2010 01:07 PM

I live in The Woodlands, which is just north of Houston, Texas, maybe 15 miles outside of Houston City Limits.

flhunter91 04-20-2010 01:33 PM

Nice I got friends in Houston

BigBuck95 04-20-2010 02:49 PM

Either
a. Texas Rig a tube or
b. Texas rig a worm/fluke
c. Buzzbait
d. Fish the edge wacky/carolina

Chuck7 04-20-2010 05:01 PM

Yes..the fluke is another hot lure..and many of our local tournys are won with that lure..forgot about that one..
