Aaron,
I'm going to that exact spot tomorrow for bass and bluegills..This is Lake Fish Hook..All bass must be released so a picture is all I can take..

Here's how I got my 2 shiner spinning rods rigged..

6 1/2 foot rods..one is a Team Diawa...medium heavy...one is medium..Lightning Rod
Shimano Reels filled with 20 pound Power Pro..
I tie on a brass barrel swivel that acts as a swivel and sinker to keep the sshiner from twisting the line.
I tie on a 30 inch piece of 12 pound Trilene mono.
and I use a 1/0 off set fluke hook...similiar to a circle hook..the shiners are small to medium..

I use a slip bobber knot that allows for easy casting

When the fish takes the shiner I let her bury the bobber and straighten out the line..and then set the hook hard...drags are set on the loose side as I've already had 3 fish snap the line on the initial run..

Same lake..

Actually ALL 3 of these eights were caught on spinning tackle..this last one was caught on a Bomber A crankbait..weight was 8.2 at Saddle Creek at a grassy rock bar.

Doggon good fish Chuck! I would be lost on that lake without any laydowns, weed piles or lillypads to throw too, haha. I havent been very succesful fishing for bass in open waters yet. :)

I've read where Flouro is viritually invisible in water, and is tougher than mono. Have you thought about trying that out as a leader instead of the mono, or are you using the mono to keep some flex in the line?

Daggum, what I would give to pull in one of those 8lbers, haha.

Chuck7 07-30-2009 01:23 PM

Aaron..I've tried Flouro about 3 times..I did not like it..
Reasons being..they have still not invented a flouro carbon that does not spring off the spool..AND I had it on once this year..a 4 pounder snapped it like it was thread..
That was my last time using it..I pulled it off and it went into the garbage can..
I've talked to local guys who win big money..It was very shocking to hear..
"Well , I use 10 pound mono Trilene..I get more hits...yeah ..I lose some but I get alot more hits ...just last week I got a 9 pounder on a fluke using 10 pound mono."
Under extremem conditions I'll use 12 pound mono."

My drag is set where it should be impossible to break..Earlier this year I put too much confidince in Power Pro and It cost me..I forgot..the initial run of a 10 pound plus is like being tied to a semi..breaks like thread..I have no idea how they generate that kind of power..

By the way..we have top water structure too.{ -:
