plastic bead on lead weight doesnt make much noise....it wil make a little if your using steel weight with a glass bead.

The purpose of a bead on a carolina rig is to protect the knot. in heavy cover

I never use a true Carolina RIg..and yet this thread came in handy today..

I took Kevin fishing,,,my neighbor,,He fishes about 5 times a year..and lo and behold..he has his worm rod rigged a true Carolina Rig..with a big ole fluke..I'm bumping a worm and hear.."I got one on." he leans...sets..and misses..BUT his leader is like 30 inches long..[:-]and in a 10 foot jon..I'm thinking there is no room to sweep that rod ..TOO MUCH SLACK...However we found the fish in which I'll fish hard the next week..They were deep between 2 islands..anyway..he had another good miss so I bought a pack of egg sinkers tonight and may do a little true Carolina fishing this week myself..but my leader will be about 18 inches.

I say "True" because I do what I call a Carolina but it's really just a pegged worm..By the way..I tried 3 colors today..

Culpret Fire and Ice...no go

Gambler Christmas Tree { Purple with red sparkles} no go

Culpret ..pure black...2 nice violent strikes..so black is beautiful..I also use glass rattles.

Well..I went to a good spot today..and fished a true Carolina Rig..egg sinker..barrel swivel the works.I tied on about 24 inches of 12 pound Trilene as a leader and a fluke.I had never caught a fish on a fluke..I was drifting over a 10 foot area between 2 islands..when I felt a pick up..I waited and set the hook to catch my first fluke /Carolina Rig fish ever..finally[8D]it was a good 2 pounder..I missed one on a crankbait..and that was all she wrote..next week should be better.

PS I'm glad mytwo 7' rods didn't sell on Craigslist..they will be my two Carolina Rig Rods..I will put my two cheap Pinnacle Baitcasters on them..I should be good to go.You do need a good stout rod for the Carolina Rig...to take up the slack real fast.

hush your mouth[:-]. i have used a 3/4-1oz jig a bunch of times, if i keep getting bit and miss fish i'll check the bullet weight, if it has teeth marks i use my jig as a weight. some folks don't believe or adhere to this but its the truth, just like some have never heard a rod buzz when there is static electricity in the air, i can send pic's if needed

That sounds cool..like your fishing 2 lures at the same time..a jig and a fluke.

When I use a carolina rig I drag it slowly across the bottom . I like to use the the method like chuck shows that is the best way.
