I think the fish have wised up on ole Horny Toad..

1 st outing 12 hits
2nd outing 5 hits
3rd outing 2 hits..

4th -10th ZERO HITS[:-]The bass may be smarter than what we give them credit for..Actually ..aint nothing working much for me..
i sure hope it hasn't worn its welcome out because I have a billion Horny Toad bags lying aroundnow, haha!

I bought some Stanley's Ribbits andaScum FrogBig Foot so I am going to give them a try and see if they do any better, but they make a lot more ruckus than the Horny Toad. I actually preferred to fish the horny toad 2-3 inches below the water surface and have it make zero splash. For me, I was fishing it with luck as a purely visual lure.

However, we are so dry here that the water has dropped and the deepest part of this little oxbow is about 3-4 feet. If we dont get some rain soon, the water is gonna turn and the fish are gonna be floating!

Here are two more ideas.

One is spray on a light coat of silicone on the soft bait.

The other is take a chap stick, and rub it on the fishing line about 1 foot or so from the soft bait.

Let us know if this works.

Good Luck

RE: Soft Lure Floating issues

i did my first bit of night fishing by accident the other day. Ihit the waterabout 7:30, hoping to get about an hour of fishing time in, and I wasnt getting many hits. I decided to see what was on the other side of the small lake i was on, because I have never made my way all the way around it. When i got to the other side, it was dark, and so i decided to paddle my way back and just make a few casts here and there on the way. I had numerous water eruptions right behind my lure as i retrieved it at several different spots, one of which was almost 2 feet behind the lure. I fish the horny toad just under the water so I know the fish were missing it because I wasnt making any noise with it and my retrieval wasnt conducive to night fishing.

Anyways, once late evening early night came, the fish started going after it again so you might just need to fish later in the evening. Because of this "night fishing" experiance, i went and bought some ribbits that are known to make more noise on top, and also a Scumfrog Big foot which is supposed to displace a LOT of water. So next time i go out in the late evening, Im gonna give them a try and see if I cant get the fish to hone in on them a little better then the Horny Toad.
