What model baitcaster?

Can you explain the problem a little bit more?

when you say that it can't cast out, do you mean that the thumb bar isnt pressing down, or that it is but the spool wont turn? Are you hearing any clicking sound when you press the thumbar down?

brakes are probably set too high

i'll have to look at the model and make.and to explain the problem more here it goes-the thumb bar presses down and clicks.you can pull the line out but casting wise i can' get it to cast out.the spool will turn if you pull on the line but when you try and cast it doesn't seem to.

how hard is it to turn when you pull it out by hand. If it is hard to pull out by hand as well, it is probably a brake issue, in which case the brake is set too high/tight. Lower the brake until the lure/weight slowly falls from the rod tip when the rod is pointed away from you at a 90 degree angle from you (parrallel to the floor).

Your brakes are probably to high or they are messed up. I have bought some like that before. Thats why I always try one out before the warranty goes out on it.
