tiller to steering console

I am looking to buy my first boat and my questions is, what is all involved with switching from a stick steer motor to getting a steering wheel. Do you have to have someone else do this for you and if so how expensive would this be rougly?
Thank you

RE: tiller to steering console

Depends on the type of boat. I added a console to a Carolinia skiff in a few hours. The steering cable isn' t to hard but the measurement must be pretty close you only get one chance. For the fifty bucks to install a $300 dollar cable its worth it to use a dealer

And don`t forget, you need an aftermarket motor adapter for a steering wheel. Your tiller motor is not set up to accept steering cables.
