Choosing the right color..

A friend on here has been askin gme some fishing questions..His last question I'm going to ask publically because I feel it;s a good discussion question?

Does the color of the lure make a difference??

For me..I tryto match tha hatch...In FLorida the bass mostly feed on small gizzard shad..little white fish with a black dot on the side..with aforked tail..this is why I fish white Rooster Tails or the clear white shad raps..with a black dot...or Bagley's Bass n Shad ..the old balsa wood kind..I find them on ebay for 10.00 but they are hot.

RE: Choosing the right color..

For me color selection is dependant on a few factors

1. Water Clarity

2. Sunny Skies vs. Overcast

3. Forage base in that particular body of water I am fishing.

4. If eveyone on the lake is throwing white, I will throw something different.

5. If my partner is smashing the bass on a color different than mine, I am switching. :D

Yep, always good to have another guy with ya.:D

On bigger waters I usually try and match the color of baitfish. around here it's normaly shad or bluegill for me.Or at least go with something I'd call 'neutral'.

But in ponds I've caught a lot of fish on white, purple/black, chart. etc, soft plastics.

I also seem to throw alot of spinner/buzz baits with some wild colors.

Colours make a big difference. Try to match the bait (shinners, shadcrawdads, eels and ect.) and changelures/spinner baitsdepending on sunny conditions vs. cloudy and murky water vs. clear and ect. Colourselection is very important as well as presentation and changes in the weather andthingsI hav'ent got a clue about.

For me when fly fishing color has alot to do with it, Wrong color and no hits are produced..

Murky waters I like to use silver blades and in clear waters I like to use copper or brass colored blades.

So IMO yes color can and does make a difference.
