First pole

I've fished several times, but always by bumming someone elses fishing gear. Its time to change that. I fish on the West Coast where there are some good salmon and steelhead. Later, I will probably buy a lighter pole for trout. I've received a few recomendations to pick up a Lamiglas 1311 from the G1000 line. I can get it for $160 at GI Joes, and $60 for a Shimano reel. If I do that, it comes with free line. Any thoughts? Thanks :eek:
