For the most part yes I agree, though I have seen small baits out fish big baits for cats as well. This varies however with the type of bait you're fishing with too. Big baits can catch you bigger fish, regardless of the species - for the simple fact that bigger fish are singled out with bigger baits. Your number of hook-ups will probably decrease as a result of using bigger baits, but those that you set the hook into will as a whole be larger.

Pretty much the norm in all types of fishing! Yes smaller baits can catch bigger fish but as Austin said the bigger baits will select for the bigger fish.

if you are looking for a big flat head id suggest that you use a live shad(can be bought at your local bait dealer) fish it right on the bottom and give the shad enough line betweent the weight so that he can swim around...........heck you might even pick up a striper or 2

The biggest bluegill you can get is the best flathead bait down here. I've seen a 35lb. flat engulf a 6 lb. blue cat that was being reeled in. Yes, 6 lb.! Unbelievable. The blue's fins held the flathead until it was netted.

The other day I caught a 13lb. 9oz.flathead on a brokeback shad crank bait. Fought the fish for ten minutes. I was bass fishin so i only had 15lb. test and a 7ft. rod (thin), was not prepared but i got him in the boat.

What a rush!!!
