really depends on where you are located.

I fish mid-Michigan and a buddy and I caught 50 in about 2 hours a week ago yesterday.

shallow lakes are the key, minnows are the bait.

I have a pond infested with the damn things. I would thin them out but there are some huge bass in the pond that eat them. I have caught atleast 5 bass over 5lbs that had crappie tails sticking out of their gullets. Also makes for a lot of fun ice fishing.

Indiana what kind of bait do you use .Myself i only use curlytail jigs on bass, bluegill, crappy, my favorite colors are black@green mix,black@graymix,cleargreen.they seem to work real well for me. Most of the time i catch and release one time out of the year i keep some .I just enjoy fishing .

We have a lure nicknamed the cheater lure where I fish. A red 1/4 oz saltwater fishing jig head with a 3 inch white grub. Caught over 50 crappie in one hour with one.

Ice fishing was great especially at late ice. Now they are starting to move to the sheltered bays and backwaters for pre spawning. Time to get out the 9 foot pole and bobber. Great eats to be sure and a ready market around here if someone wants to sell them.
