Questions
Ok let start this off by saying i have not owned my own fishing pole since i was a kid. Many years ago.
I am curious as to what your opinions are? I just moved to an area that has a freshwater lake. stocked with bass, catfish amoung some other stuff. What type of rod and reel would you buy for an adult and a 5 year old girl? |
RE: Questions
For the 5 yr old I'd certainly recommend a spincasting reel.
This is the close faced type. You can get a pretty good beginner combo (rod & reel) for about $20.00 (Zebco 202). There are also some really small combo setups w/ cartoon characters that aren't to bad. There are alot of options in size, color and such so she should be able to pick one out she really likes. You could also go with a spincasting reel and a medium to medium/heavy rod. If you want something a little more versitile a spinning reel is handy for long casts. Whatever you do let HER help pick out some stuff she likes and have fun. God bless, PK |
RE: Questions
thank you for that information. I am a believer in letting my kids pick what they want so they can enjoy what they are about to do. I was actually looking at the zebco 303 i think it was. But not sure what to look at for myself.

RE: Questions
The 303 would not be a bad starter for you. They don't look
fancy or anything but they do get the job done. If you want something more heavy duty there should still be more options. Starting off simple is good for kids and adults alike. I don't know what stores you have available but the Walmarts here still have a decent selection of basic tackle. Like typed before, the only other reel type I'd recommend to get started, especially considering you will be spending alot of time helping your daughter, is a spinning reel/rod. If you don't buy it as a combo, remember the rod for a spinning reel needs the large eyes so the line can move freely. It's not a bad idea to put new line on a reel. Use something within the lb test recommended for the rod & reel you choose PK |
RE: Questions
I am actually in Magnolia. I have a bass pro, gander mtn, academy, wal-mart. All not far from me.
