Advice for the weekend

I went to to my local river and tryed some catfishing. I used liver bait and cut shad. I fished the bottom for 2 hours and didn't catch a thang. I'm going down to the hunting camp to do some work this weekendand I'm going to try my luck in the river down there. I don't want to have a repeat of today. So any advice for techniques, where to look, and if my bait is alright. Any replies will be greatly appreciated. Thanks
