Ice is gone

I hate this warm trend. We had decent ice and then a dump of snow which insulated the ice so it didn't grow. The snow limited access to some of my best spots. These past few days have been record high temperatures in the 50's and 60'swith really high wind. The bay I was fishing on yesterday is open water now. Bummer because they were just starting to bite.

No boat?
Yup sure do but around here it is prudent to put them away for the winter before October hunting starts. It takes a day to get everything re-rigged and ready for water plus the docks and lift.

Sorry to here about that CI, I haven't been out yet but talked with a few on Monday that were fishing and the ice has been very spotty here.
They would cut 11 inches and then all of a sudden 4 inches. With all the snow and slush I wouldn't dare venture out where I normally fish.
Also the shorelines were still quite bad. It has been in the 50s here so I will be a while longer before venturing out on it here.

You are right on the senko's Josh. One thing for sure, when we are fishing hard water in the weedy shallow bays for bluegills and crappie we often can't keep the largies off the lures. On a bad day you might be bothered with between 10 and 25 bass and some pike all in shallow 6' water with 4 pound test and a short ice rod. This many times results in an initial run that breaks you off. The lures are usually small #10 or #12 rockers or demons like pictured in a variety of colors and tipped with a waxy or spike (maggot). I catch some of my largest bass of the year by accident through the ice. Lots of fun but not the intended target.:D
