Social Security Number for License?

How many of you have to give your SSN to get a fishing license? Maryland has introduced a bill (HB115) this year that will require us to do it.

I think that's pretty lame. They already have our driver's license numbers on them (in Ohio anyways). I guess if someone didn't have a license an SS number would be a good alternative, but I don't think they should be used otherwise.

That's the first time I've heard of that, a SSN or a drivers license required on a fishing license. Isn't that getting a little to personnel? Do you require this information on hunting licenses also?

Trailer, No its not required for hunting license. I know PA has this law and I think it to help track dead beat dads.

I get a little peeved when everyone and their brother whats to know my SS#. The purpose of the Social Security number was to register anyone seeking Federal funds or to register foreign aliens entering this country, it was not intended to be used as a citizens identification number. With all the problems of identity theft happening now I don't what some pimple faced kid at Wally World having this information.
