Looking for a boat

Hey guys.
I'm in the process of getting an idea of what I'm looking at for a boat. Boating is nothing new to me, I can't remember not having one around. The only thing is, that I am not looking for a pleasure boat, I need a "working" boat.
The use is for fishing and for hunting waterfowl in areas like Long Point bay here in ontario.
So I'm looking for something about 16 feet long with an open concept.
I'm not sure if fiberglass is ok for a situation like hunting birds since the boat will be possibly in some really shallow water with rocks, and that is where I trust the aluminum.
I'd prefer a side console, but a tiller is fine as I can build my own little set up typical of a bass boat.
I'm thinking of a Jon boat in the 15-16 foot range, however I'm not sure how it will take waves if I'm just drift fishing on the inner bay when the 30 foot cruisers roll by me.
looking to spend a MAX of 3 grand on a set up

RE: Looking for a boat

forget about johnboats just buy an alumacraft 16 foot fishing boat. Lots of good deals just take a drive through minnesota and look for the "for sale" signs.
