Deerslayer_37 I agree, I like all kinds of fishing. Some times its just as much fun to catch sun fish allday. When I lived down south I loved catfishing, now that I'm back up north there isn't much catfishing. I think muskie are one of the more exciting fish to catch also, they can be quite tricky at times.

here muskie and pike arent so common...but you goto any of the farm ponds or lakes your bound to snag a large mouth...and they are fun to catch...thats why theres so much hype..it doesnt take much to entise a strike and they are usually abundant in most areas and pretty fun to catch...

ok,obviously you didnt catch the comment at the end of my post cball. I fish smallmouth almost as hard as I fish muskies.thats alot. I love smallmouth fishing.but whats the big deal with largemouth? that seems the only thing anyone fishes...who cares about bill dance catching the same thing every cast?

All I'm saying is for most "Bass fishermen"a bass is a bass.If your fishing in mid to southern lakes your probably going to catch LM ,northern waters you know are habitiat for SM .Ask anybody that calls himself a bassfisherman,he'll ttell you he loves to catch both..In my opinion smallmouths are more predictable than largemouths and easeier to catch..

smallies predictable? yeah right...i can toss a husky jerk into one pull and get a coupla 15 inchers and then go to the next pool exact same type of pool and i wont catch a thing. smallies are not easy to catch.but if youre good at it,you can catch many.

I've often wondered that also. I've fished for largemouths before and just couldn't seem to get what the greatness of that particulary fish was. I think northerns are the supreme game fish. But if I get a chance to fish muskies I'll probably change my mind. Until then I'm a Northern fisherman till death.

Wait, wait, ready PLUG EM!!!!!

I guess the geographic distribution of the largemouth is so diverse, that most semi-serious anglers have hung into largemouth and everybody knows about them.I don't think they make the best tablefair, and they can't hold a light to an angry Esox for size and fighting capability. It's not the largemouth's fault he's so overrated.I do think there's a lack of variety with the bass fanatics of this world.I think fighting a musky is about as exciting as seeing a huge buck deer in your crosshairs.Bass don't do that for me.I might feel different if I hooked one of those 20 lb monsters from Fla. or Cal.Until then, give me a big northern, musky or walleye any day.

I think the term bass reflects both species and often includes the KY strain. The bass hype has come with the significant media coverage of tournaments. Tournaments have had the biggest impact on equipment improvement much more than anything else. Plain and simple, the bass hype is enhanced by tournaments.

As my handle indicates, I fish bass. That's my favorite, plain and simple. But, I also fish many others. Muskie, snakes(northerns), panfish and at times even carp. They're all fun.

Smallmouth are much easier to pattern than LM most of the time. IMO smallmouth are more fun most of the time. Muskies....I've caught many, are boring to fish for (for me) but many love it.
