Default Electric Fillet Knife

What's a good electric fillet knife? I bought a Browning from Bass Pro and it crapped out within the first 15 seconds.

why would you want an electric fillet knife? A quality sharpened fillet knife will do much better any day of the week!

I have had good luck with American Angler. I have hadit for 8 or 10 years. You do need to put a set of replacement blades on about every year or 2 If you clean a lot of fish. Wal-Mart has them for $25. or $30
Replacement blades are $5. or $6.

indianahunter83 asks why electric? when you start getting old and start getting arthritis they take all of the work out of it.

i'm planning on getting a electric fillet knife. I whatched our guide clean 8 walleyes iin less than fisve minutes and it takes me about 20 min to clean 8 witha regular fillet knife. he said that the electric bread knifes that you get for cheap are just as good if not better than the real fish fillet knifes.
so i definitely disagree with you indiana about that.

Go to a fish market and watch the real pro's do their craft if you want to be impressed. You will notice that all of them use a normal but razor sharp filet knife. I wouldn't jump to using a cheap electric bread knife just because one guy claims it is the way to go. (nor would I use a regular filet knife on the ravings of one lone fisherman) My uncle in law grew up in new england and paid for college by doing a lot of fish cleaning. You would be amazed at how fast and well he cleans a fish with a filet knife.

Nothing like an electric when you have a couple of buckets of bull blue gills to clean. Zip downone side right through the ribs almost through to the tail, flop the fillet over and then put the knife between the skin and meat to remove the skin. Repeat on the other side and then cut and then the belly bones out with a small sharp knife. It takes me about 20 seconds per fish. My el knife is an old green and yellow by Mr. Twister and I have used it for at least 15 years.

Electric fillet knives are the only way to go as they are
twice as fast as using a standard fillet knife.A professional
fisherman over 20 years ago showed me how he used one
and proved to me that they are indeed the way to go.I
have no problem keeping a standard fillet knife sharp as I
used to run a knife sharpening service for a full time knife
store and have no problem keeping a razor edge on any
blade. After using an electric knife I would never go back to
just using the old standard fillet knife but to each his own
as to how he wants to do it. Mike

I guess I'm the only one without arthritic hands that can wield a good sharp fillet knife
