Trolling motor help .
 

I'm having a hard time figuring witch motor would be appropriate for my boat . The thrust ratings make no sence to me . How long will it last for before the battery needs recharging ? I've got a 14' jon boat . What would you suggest I put on it ? I only want to go with a 12 volt system .

I've hadthe models17, 27, 35 , 40 and 48

My present motor is a 40.I like it best. The 48 weighed much more and was too bulky..I'd go with a Minn Kota Endura 40.pound thrust,it helps when that afternoon wind comes up. Whenthe motor gets worn out, save the old motor.Many of the parts are interchangeable. My 40 switch just went and my MinnKota 48 Spider switch was the same switch. Saved me 40.00

I used to have a 28 lb thrust Motor guide that I though was pretty darn good. I had sold it to a guy for his son to use on a rubber boat. He had a great time with it.

i'd get the biggest you can afford. you can always turn it down, but you cant turn it up past 5. 54 lbs would be plenty, and recharge the battery after each use.

Ditto on what Chuck said!Minn Kota is the best out there and will hold up
when it really counts.I think a 40 lb thrust is more than adequate. Mike :D

I think Josh gave the best advice... The more thrust the merrier and its not going to cost you much more. Always recharge your battery after any use just to make sure it won't die on you and make you paddle home.

I bought a Min-Kota 36 . I took it out today and was very pleased . Between the battery and the motor - they weigh quite abit for my small boat, butit works like a charm .
