If you plan on any saltwater fishing at all then definitely buy decent reels. These cheap 50 dollar specials that Chuck loves so dearly will rust on your in no time. Note that a 50 dollar reel might last you 5-10 years but a good reel that is properly taken care of will last you a lifetime.
Take a look at the reel on the bottom right of the picture I posted, the Gold one.......That's a Penn 955 ($200)....Fresh/Salt water!:)

I can say that I fish 200 days per year, on average (this year was an exception with the move happening), and I've had 4 of my curados, and 2 citicas since I learned to used a baitcaster in 1993, at age 9. They are STILL in my tournament rod locker, along with 7 more. They are well worth the $119 that I paid for them. I've experimented with Quantum accurast reels, and all it did was cost me $100 - they didnt last one season of heavy use. This is one case that foreign made products are far superior than the domestic made.
