Your Biggest Bass
I am fortunate to fish the Central California and San Diegolakes. Icatch several Bass every year over 8 pounds, and a few over 10 pounds. My largest I did not keep or weigh as I was shore fishing, but she was 29 1/2" long. I am curious as to what a "Huge Bass" is around the rest of the country.

RE: Your Biggest Bass
Do you want to know what a big bass is in our area or what our biggest bass was? In Indiana an bass over 6lbs is considered a hog... My biggest was a 9lb even caught in florida when I was 12.

RE: Your Biggest Bass
I want to know what a big bass is in your area. Since Florida, Texas and CA. generally get all the "publicity", I am curious about the rest of the country; since I know there has to be some fantastic fisheries elsewhere for Bass.

RE: Your Biggest Bass

For central Florida...a 10 pound bass makes the news..When I first moved here in 1981 it would take a 12 pounder to make the news..Fishing has changed alot since then. A 10 pounder although is not rare is still looked at as a trophy. My next wall hanger must be at least a 10 pounder. |

RE: Your Biggest Bass
I think my biggest bass could be used as bait for those guys.... So far my bass fishing has been limited to grossly over-populated small ponds.

RE: Your Biggest Bass

RE: Your Biggest Bass
There are many bass in Virginia every year caught that
weigh over 8 pounds. My personal best is 8.4 pounds caught on a zoom lizard. We have a lake here called Briery Creek Lake that is about 700 acres that have many bass caught every year that weigh between 8 and 14 pounds every year. The best ever caught out of that lake weighed 16.3 pounds. This lake is stocked with the Florida strain largemouths. We have so many good fishing lakes here but still prefer fishing small to midsize lakes. RE: Your Biggest Bass
My biggest bass to date was a 26 inch smallmouth which was close to 6 pounds caught a couple of years ago. Here any smallmouth over 5 pounds is concidered a trophy fish. For as far as largemouths they are new for us up in this part of the state. I am led to believe that 5 and 6 pounders are quite common with some reaching as much as 10 pounds. I have never caught anything like them for as far as largemouths go.

RE: Your Biggest Bass
My biggest one was around 12 pounds and it was the first one I ever caught as a kid. We were fishing for catfish using perch for bait. It was big enough to stick your all the way down and work the hook out.

RE: Your Biggest Bass
As far north as maine is and you stating they are new to the area I think you are probably being fed some fibbers... that and the fact maine's state record is 11lbs caught in 1968! |

RE: Your Biggest Bass
Hey Coolbrze,Yes the publicity really did catch up with
it but that has now changed for the better. The commision changed the size limit that everything from 14 to 24 inchs has to be released back. You can keep anything under 14 and only 1 fish per day over 24 inches. They still let you keep 5 a day though. When I used to go to taxidermy school in Richmond around 1995 you would not believe how many 8 to 14 pound fish came to the shop to be mounted.Thats what really opened my eyes up to what a awesome fishery this is.I think it will remain strong now with the regulations that have been imposed. They put the Florida strain in just four years before it opened.I have never fished a lake with so many trees and stickups before like that has. That also is what makes it so good. Also some nice Bluegill in there also.Take Care! Well - it seems as though there are some huge bass all over the country. Thanks for the replies and I hope the post keeps going:) If you like, add your favorite bait. Here - I use Yamamotos Cinco's, Kreatures and Stretch O's weedless and weightless; ZoomBrush Hogs, Ribbon Tailed Worms, and Lizardson a carolina rig; andoccasionaly drop shot finese worms - almost exclusively in Watermellon Black Flake or Green Pumpkin for all of the above.
